Community Impact Measures Update

Hi Neighbors!

We are so excited about our work in Liberty City under the Community Impact Measures program in partnership with NeighborWorks America.

As of September 28th, we have completed all 100 Building Observations in the targeted area!

A huge shout out to the residents who completed the survey! We sent the surveys to 1900 residents and, thus far, have received 100 of the 200 we need for statistical integrity.

We are also observing 194 blocks in the targeted area which is between 17th and 12th Avenues and 71 and 58th Streets. This survey project will conclude October 4th.

Learn more about the survey here.

NHSSF Beautification Team beautifies its eighth home in Coconut Grove

NHSSF, along with Growcare Outdoor Solutions, Home Depot and Miami-Dade County, performed landscaping and exterior painting services at another home in Coconut Grove.

This marks the eighth home in the Coconut Grove area that NHSSF has beautified as part of its 45th Anniversary initiative, the Beautification Program.

One of our goals is to provide innovative solutions to communities facing an affordable housing crisis and residential and business displacement due to climate change, natural disasters, gentrification, and unexpected economic hardships. To this end, we are committed to community revitalization and beautification.

In commemoration of our 45th anniversary we set a goal to paint (exterior) and landscape up to 45 homes throughout South Florida. We are working with The Home Depot stores in various neighborhoods.  Help us to meet our goal of beautifying 45 homes.  We need funding partners and in-kind support to help these 45 families.  Please contact Roberto (Bobbie) Alverez, Robertoa@nhssf.org to offer your support.

Are you a Miami-Dade resident struggling to pay your mortgage or utility bills? You might qualify for help from the Mortgage Relief Program (MRP)

A letter from the mayor about the Mortgage Relief Program (MRP) & Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

A message from Miami-Dade County Mayor, Daniella Levine Cava:

Dear Miami-Dade County Resident,

As your Mayor, I am deeply aware that the lack of affordable housing and rising costs of living have made it difficult for many families to live, work, and thrive in our County. In response to this crisis, I launched the HOMES Plan which includes our Mortgage Relief and Weatherization Assistance Programs. We are reaching out to you personally because you may be able to benefit from either or both programs.

Mortgage Relief Program (MRP)

The MRP provides relief to thousands of households who struggle with increasing homeownership costs. The HOMES program commits $25 million to this effort and applicants can receive up to $1,500 per household towards late mortgage payments, late homeowner association (HOA) fees, and late utility assistance. Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD), in partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF), began accepting applications for the MRP on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Eligibility

Applicants for the MRP must:

  • Be a Miami-Dade County homeowner requesting assistance for a primary resident; and
  • Have a total household income within the eligibility threshold:
    • 1 person household – $95,620
    • 2 person household – $109,200
    • 3 person household – $122,920
    • 4 person household – $136,500

Homeowners who are seniors, have a disability, have families with children, or are 3 to 12 months behind on payments will be given priority.

How to Apply

Applicants may apply online, or by visiting one of the 12 Community Resource Centers throughout Miami-Dade County during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

CAHSD, in partnership with NHSSF, will provide weatherization services to a minimum of 180 applicants throughout Miami-Dade County, at an average benefit of $15,000 per household. These services will include Air Sealing, Attic Insulation, Duct Sealing, Floor Insulation, Sunscreen/Solar Films, Dense-Pack Sidewall Insulation, Refrigerator Replacement, Water Heater Replacement, and HVAC System Replacement.

The income level for applicants shall not exceed 140% AMI threshold. Weatherization improvements and upgrades can save homeowners an average of $372 or more every year, and $3 million total has been allocated to WAP through the HOMES plan.

Eligibility

Applicants for the WAP must have a total household income within the eligibility threshold:

  • 1 person household – $95,620
  • 2 person household – $109,200
  • 3 person household – $122,920
  • 4 person household – $136,500

We encourage eligible homeowners with questions about the programs to contact Community Action and Human Services Department at 786-469-4600, or Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida at 786-237-2118 or by email at mortgagerelief@nhssf.org / 786-527-3115 or by email at weatherization@nhssf.org.

If you believe that you might be eligible for either program, I encourage you to reach out to program staff. I am committed to helping you, and all our residents in Miami-Dade County, to weather the affordability crisis, and my administration continues working each and every day to ensure access to quality housing that you can afford.

Sincerely,

Daniella Levine Cava

Mayor, Miami-Dade County
