BEAUTIFICATION DAY
Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida, Home Depot, and the City of Oakland Park coordinated a residential beautification project on November 21st to upgrade a home in Oakland Park.
About the Event
The ‘Beautification Day’ project involved painting, landscaping, and weatherizing the home of Doris Hawkins, a low-income senior and mother of a deceased naval veteran.
This was part of NHSSF's effort to restore and revitalize 45 homes throughout South Florida in recognition of its 45th anniversary.
One of the goals of our organization is to provide innovative solutions to communities facing an affordable housing crisis and residential and business displacement due to climate change, natural disasters, gentrification, and unexpected economic hardships. To this end, we are committed to community revitalization and beautification.
Beautification Initiative
NHSSF recently celebrated its 45th anniversary. In recognition of this milestone, NHSSF has launched its Beautification Initiative, which has committed to providing services to 45 homes throughout South Florida. These services include landscaping and exterior painting.
The aim of the initiative is to preserve the value of the homes and assist the homeowners in maintaining one of their most valuable assets.
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
NHSSF has also been partnering with Miami-Dade County’s Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) to provide energy-efficient home improvements through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) in homes in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
These energy efficiency measures, such as air sealing, attic insulation, window tinting, door replacement, water heater and HVAC system replacement, will help low- to moderate-income residents save money on utility bills, foster a healthier home, and help families to participate in being good stewards of our environment.
