Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)
in partnership with
Miami-Dade County’s Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD)
General Description
Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF) is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. One of our many goals is to provide innovative solutions to communities facing an affordable housing crisis and residential and business displacement due to climate change, natural disasters, gentrification, and unexpected economic hardships. To this end, we are committed to community revitalization and beautification.
As part of our commitment to preserve the housing stock in Miami-Dade County and promote sustainable homeownership across South Florida communities, we believe that energy efficient improvements help create a healthier home environment, while reducing home energy costs.
Starting March 2023, we proudly announce that Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF) is partnering with Miami Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) to provide energy efficient home improvements through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).
Through funding provided by CAHSD, NHSSF will install weatherization measures in at least 180 homes within the next 12 months. These energy efficiency measures, such as air sealing, insulation, water heater and HVAC system replacement will help low- to moderate-income residents save money on utility bills, foster a healthier home, and help families to participate in being good stewards of our environment.
About the Program
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a program that assists low-income homeowners with making their homes energy efficient through the installation of cost-saving measures, such as:
- Attic insulation
- Low-flow showerheads
- Water heater jackets
- Energy efficient light bulbs
- Weather-stripping
- Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV), including bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans
- Repair or replacement of exterior doors, windows, refrigerators, water heaters and cooling and heating systems
Note: Assistance has been temporarily put on hold until further funding becomes available.

National Weatherization Day
The 2023 National Weatherization Day was on October 30. Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida (NHSSF) was invited to participate alongside Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) and showcase the wonderful work we are doing for our clients in the community.
The old stucco on the building exterior was removed and a new layer was added. The range and microwave were both also replaced with energy efficient models.
We would like to thank the contractor, JMP Group for their excellent work. The homeowner was extremely pleased with the results.
