NHSSF Emergency Relief Program for Broward Residents

Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida is reactivating its Emergency Relief Program to provide low-income families in Broward County impacted by coronavirus with housing stabilization assistance, thanks to the support from the Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward.

Emergency Relief for Housing Stabilization

“My hours were reduced because of Covid, so I was unable to pay my bills, you know. Any assistance to me is from great help. And every little count, so it [the financial assistance obtained] really helped towards my rent,” said Ms. Mclean when asked about the impact of NHSSF Emergency Relief Program back in October 2020, after being one of the fortunate aid recipients.

Early in the pandemic, we swiftly reached out to partners and stakeholders to join forces in providing support to the families most vulnerable among us. In the Springtime of 2020, we opened the NHSSF Emergency Relief Program for Broward residents in partnership with the Community Foundation of Broward. We were able to help around 100 low-income families in Broward County with financial assistance to cover mortgage or rent payments partially.

Nonetheless, the impact of this economic and health crisis has prolonged for a year, and even when we start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we are aware that hundreds of households still face a dire situation with extended furloughs, permanent cuts in their working hours and an in general perceived slow economic recovery throughout South Florida communities.

We kept reaching out to partners and stakeholders. And now we are happy to announce the reactivation of the NHSSF Emergency Relief Program thanks to the support of the Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward. The program will supply emergency assistance that can be used to cover late accumulated rent or mortgage payments for up to $3,000 to renters and homeowners not covered by FHA, Fannie or Freddie, in a case-by-case scenario.

“We relaunched this Emergency Relief Program for Broward residents impacted by the coronavirus to enforce housing stability in the aftermath of the pandemic,” stated Kimberly T. Henderson, President and CEO. That is why the financial assistance provided will be connected to counseling assistance from our housing experts. After the application has been approved, prospect recipients will be counseled by our Homebuyer Education staff in order to provide affected households with the tools and information necessary to stabilize their housing situation.

 

NHSSF Emergency Relief Program Requirements

Starting March 2021, meaningful housing relief is being delivered to help Broward residents enforce their housing stability in the pandemic aftermath.

After reading the program requirements, those interested can send submissions to the Emergency Relief Program for Broward Residents through this NHSSF Application Form. Other Program Directives

  1. Applicant/Landlord must not be receiving household subsidies from any other federal, state, and/or local program for the unit the applicant is living in. Such programs include but are not limited to: Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher / Mod-Rehab, HOPWA Tenant-Based Rental Assistance, Public Housing, Section 202, or VASH.
  2. Applicant must not have liquid assets or other sources of capital over $3,000 from where rent or mortgage can be paid from.
  3. Applicant must prove that she/he was current on payments of rent or mortgage as of February 2020 or later.
  4. Landlord will need to provide with a W-9 form and ACH (Direct Deposit) form.
