Urgent Action Needed: Stop CRA Dismantling!

This afternoon at 4pm the Florida State Legislature will be considering proposal SB 1770, which seeks to dismantle Community Redevelopment Areas (CRA) throughout the State of Florida. This proposal would negatively impact all of our collective efforts to revtialize the NW 79th St CRA.

Please take a couple of minutes to contact your State legislator. Below you will find a list of members who sit on the Senate Community Affairs Committee that will be debating this proposal today Monday April 3rd at 4pm.

A sample notice is copied below:

"Dear Senator Simmons,
I am writing to express my concern about SB 1770. This bill would essentially destroy our recently formed CRA. We fought hard to get our County government to create a tax increment financing district in our very economically distressed area. And it is just getting its first tax increment this year.

These CRA funds are very much needed to help transform the NW 79th Street community. But SB 1770 is a major threat to our 79th Street CRA's very existence. We need our CRA desperately to revitalize our community.

So I ask you to please oppose SB 1770 so that we can continue to create jobs and support businesses in our community.

Thank you"

To put this in perspetive, our CRA was formed in 2009 and this is the first year that the CRA has received a Tax increment. CRAs have been used as a tool to revitalize many areas throughout South Florida. In Miami Dade they have been used as a redevelopment tool in areas such as Midtown and Overtown.

Please forward this message to your colleagues, friends and family and urge them to contact members on the committee to vote against the proposal.
